Our new assessment shows that two thirds of the EU countries report good progress in delivering annual energy savings as required by the Energy Efficiency Directive (Article 7). The Directive requires countries to deliver 1.5% energy savings newly each year. Member States make use of exemptions which means that the effective savings rate has dropped to 0.75% per year. The new findings show that such savings rates can well be reached with national energy efficiency policies and measures.
