Parliament and Council agreed to extend the generic restriction for the most harmful chemicals in toys. The Toy Safety Law will now cover PFAS, a group of ten bisphenols, and known and suspected endocrine-disruptive chemicals classified asEDC category 1 and 2.
There is a 4.5-year transition period for all provisions of the law.
PFAS and the ten bisphenols will be banned without requiring classification.
The European Chemicals Agency identified 34 bisphenols as known or potential endocrine disruptors or reprotoxic in 2021. The ten that have now been added to the ban have not yet been classified.
The current toy safety rules already ban classified carcinogens, mutagens and reprotoxics.
